Li Jian's "When All Things Rest" 2026 Guangzhou concert
FENG-YI Lighting Li Jian's When All Things Rest 2026 Guangzhou concert
◉ Project Background
Li Jian's "When All Things Rest" 2026 Guangzhou concert was a high-profile event for the renowned singer-songwriter, known for his poetic lyrics and ethereal vocal style. The production aimed to create an immersive, nature-inspired atmosphere reflecting themes of tranquility, renewal, and harmony. Our role was to deploy Lifting Bouncy Balls and Lifting Mini Balls as the primary kinetic visual elements, forming a gentle, floating “forest of light” that would complement Li Jian‘s intimate performance without overwhelming it.
◉ Project Challenges
Pushing Technological Boundaries
◉ Solution
We designed a dual-layer kinetic environment using two complementary product families.
Choreographed Scenes: Three primary modes—Dawn (soft amber and warm white, slow rises), Noon (bright, clean white, gentle undulations), and Dusk (deep blue with scattered sparkles, almost static)—aligned with the concert's thematic arc.
Artist Collaboration: Movements were timed to Li Jian‘s vocal phrasing and piano melodies, ensuring the light “breathed” with the music.
Lifting Bouncy Balls (12 units) : Larger, softly diffused spheres positioned upstage and overhead. Programmed for slow, drifting ascents and gentle swaying, they evoked floating clouds or drifting petals.
Lifting Mini Balls (80 units) : Smaller, precise units distributed throughout the stage volume. They created twinkling “starlight” fields, formed delicate constellation patterns, and provided subtle rhythmic accents during key musical phrases.
◉ Technical Highlights
Groundbreaking Industry Innovations
Lifting Bouncy Balls:
12m vertical travel, ±2mm positioning accuracy, high-diffusion silicone shells creating a perfectly soft, even glow with RGBW color mixing.
Lifting Mini Balls:
80 units, ±1mm precision, silent operation below 26dBA, capable of fast twinkling effects and smooth, slow group movements.
Unified Control:
Single timecode-synchronized network (Art-Net/DMX) with sub-10ms latency, enabling flawless coordination between both fixture types.
◉ Implementation
Phase 1: Creative consultation with Li Jian‘s production team to map visual narrative to the setlist.
Phase 2: Off-site 3D pre-visualization and full show programming using venue models.
Phase 3: Factory assembly and 100-hour stress testing of all 92 units.
Phase 4: On-site installation during a single day, followed by integrated rehearsals with lighting and audio.
Phase 5: Live show execution with on-site technician monitoring and remote backup.
Phase 6: Post-show dismantling and equipment preparation for subsequent tour stops.
◉ Project Outcomes
Reshaping Live Entertainment Standards
The kinetic installation received widespread acclaim from the artist, production team, and audiences.
◉ Lasting Impact
Diffusion of Technological Innovation
Tour Support: Remote monitoring and on-call technician for the remaining tour legs, with spare parts pre-positioned at key venues.
Program Archive: Complete show files, motion profiles, and calibration data archived for future revivals or special performances.
Equipment Refresh: Post-tour inspection and refurbishment of all 92 units, ensuring readiness for next production.
Creative Consultation: Ongoing relationship with the artist‘s team for potential festival appearances or one-off events.
◉ Project Insight
1. Restraint Is a Form of Power: For artists like Li Jian, the most impactful kinetic design is often the one that whispers rather than shouts. Slow, gentle movements created deeper emotional resonance than flashy effects.
2. Silence Is Non-Negotiable: In vocal-centric performances, mechanical noise is unacceptable. Our investment in ultra-quiet hoists was essential to preserving the artistic integrity of the live audio.
3. Less Can Be More: A focused count of 92 well-programmed units achieved a more appropriate and memorable effect than hundreds of fixtures competing for attention.
4. Collaboration Defines Success: Deep integration with the artist‘s musical phrasing and stage blocking transformed generic lighting into a genuine artistic partnership.
5. Touring Demands Simplicity: Modular, quick-deploy systems ensure consistent quality across multiple venues, reducing stress on local crews and guaranteeing repeatable results.
