Project Origins

Jiangsu TV's "Music Source Project" New Year's Eve Gala is a thematic feast centered on exploring the essence and future forms of music. It aims to break through the framework of traditional song and dance galas and create an "immersive music and visual live show" with experimentalism and symphonic sense. The core proposition of this production is to make the stage installation itself a "visual musical instrument" and a "flowing musical movement". To this end, we undertook the core dynamic visual structure of the gala and deployed a total of 692 sets of lifting meteor light tubes. This system is defined as the "Choir of Light", whose mission is to transform abstract melodies, rhythms and emotional fluctuations into tangible three-dimensional landscapes for the audience through the precise movement and light-shadow changes of the large array, realizing the sublimation of music and visuals from "collaboration" to "symbiosis".

Project Challenges

Balancing Heritage with Modernity

High-frequency dynamic response driven by music:
The gala includes a large number of symphonic, electronic and experimental music segments. The light movement needs to accurately interpret subtle rhythms, ornaments and emotional transitions, which places extreme requirements on the real-time analysis capability and ultra-high refresh rate of the control system. Traditional pre-programmed modes are difficult to meet these demands.
Construction of an immersive audio-visual integrated space:
It is not only necessary to create background effects, but also to make the light array "play" in the three-dimensional space, forming an acoustic visualization model that wraps the audience and performers. This requires the system to realize multi-level and high-density dynamic interpretation from macro sound waves to micro musical notes in the three-dimensional coordinate system.
Collaborative stability of outdoor live broadcast:
As an open-air stadium live broadcast, the system needs to operate without interference with the on-site symphony orchestra, electronic equipment and multi-camera live broadcast system under low temperature and complex electromagnetic environments, ensuring "zero frame loss" synchronization of 692 motion units during the hours-long live broadcast.

Real-time audio analysis and driving engine:

A dedicated audio MIDI mapping system was developed. On-site audio signals (or preset MIDI tracks) are analyzed in real time to extract data such as rhythm, volume and frequency characteristics, which are automatically mapped to preset "motion particle library" parameters (such as speed, density, movement direction), driving the light tube array to produce improvisational but musically sound dynamic responses.

Anti-interference full-link fiber optic loop: 

  • A fiber optic-based ring control network is adopted, which has strong anti-electromagnetic interference capability and millisecond-level transmission stability. All key nodes (main controller, backup server, distributed motor driver) are connected to the loop to ensure that the signal path remains unobstructed even in extreme cases.

Visual real-time programming interface:

  • A graphical control panel is designed for lighting programmers and music directors, which can real-time adjust the mapping relationship between music parameters and visual effects, movement intensity and style selection, making artistic adjustments intuitive and fast, and greatly improving the efficiency of creative implementation.
