A New Audiovisual Benchmark for K-Culture

At the massive Seoul World Cup Stadium, capable of holding 66,000 spectators, preparations were underway for the "K-WAVE" super concert. This major music event, gathering top Korean idol groups, aimed to showcase the global influence of K-pop culture while celebrating a significant milestone in the Korean pop music industry's development. After evaluating several international lighting teams, the concert producers ultimately selected FENG-YI Lighting for collaboration, a strong affirmation of the professional capabilities of a Chinese lighting technical team in the Asian market.

 

This concert held special significance: it needed to display the latest achievements of Korean pop music and drive breakthroughs in performance formats through technological innovation. As a key cultural event broadcast globally, the project required balancing unique Korean characteristics with international aesthetic standards, achieving top-tier excellence in both technical execution and artistic expression.

Pushing the Technical Limits of a Mega-Event

The stadium's vast oval structure, designed as the main venue for the 2002 World Cup, posed specific challenges for lighting design. The primary technical difficulty was ensuring a consistent visual experience for 66,000 attendees while simultaneously meeting the multi-angle filming demands of the live broadcast.

Known for precise choreography and strong visual styles, K-pop requires lighting design to achieve millimeter-level synchronization with dance movements. The consecutive performances by multiple groups, each with unique visual style requirements, necessitated rapid switching between different lighting scenes.

The concert was streamed globally via multiple international platforms, requiring the signal to meet broadcast standards across different countries. The lighting design had to balance the live experience with camera presentation, ensuring optimal results on various end-user devices.
