Zheng Runze Nanjing Concert: Composing a Modern Light-and-Shadow Poem for the Ancient Capital of the Six Dynasties with Programmable Lighting

When Zheng Runze’s Boundless Wilderness of Ze tour arrived in Nanjing, an extraordinary stage lighting design challenge emerged: how to make stage visuals not only serve the music, but also converse with this ancient capital bearing a thousand years of cultural heritage? The final design is a profound practice that decodes regional culture into data parameters, then compiles them into a dynamic emotional live experience with cutting-edge digital control technology. This is more than a concert—it is an experiment in "emotional architecture" that takes light as the brush and the city as the soul.

I. Design Origin: From Cultural Symbols to Dynamic Mechanical Grammar

Nanjing’s imagery is profound: lantern shadows on the Qinhuai River, the outline of the Ming City Wall, and drizzling rain through plane tree leaves. Rejecting simplistic pattern projection, our design strives to extract the visual genes and mechanical structures of these symbols. The core of the stage is a set of freely combinable diamond truss structures driven by numerically controlled motors, inspired by the lattice windows of Jiangnan gardens and the frameworks of Chinese folding fans. Through mechanical programming, these structures can instantly transform from a compact "city wall" formation into an extended "overhanging eave" posture, providing a dynamic canvas for lighting that brims with the skeletal beauty of Eastern aesthetics.

II. Technical Core: Building the Jinling Context Light-and-Shadow Database

The heart of its professionalism lies in a bespoke Jinling Context Light-and-Shadow Effect Database created for this event. This is not a set of pre-fixed scenes, but a combinable parameter package encompassing color palettes, motion trajectories, beam textures, and mechanical movement logic.

  • Misty Rain Veil Package: Defines the beam scattering angle under specific humidity (achieved via on-site haze machines), the gradient logic of low-saturation blue-grey tones, and the non-linear motion trajectories that drift softly like drizzle.
  • Dimmly Lit Lanterns Package: Sets the precise range of warm color temperature (2700K-3200K), an algorithm for random flicker simulating candle flames, and the diffusion speed at which light zones bloom gently from a single point to the whole.

All the director needs to do is call a macro command such as activate_nanjing_misty_rain on the console, and the entire lighting system will synchronously switch to the preset "Jinling Mode".

III. Effect Realization: When Music Meets Programmed Urban Memory

In the performance of Exclusive Traits, to express the sense of alienation in modern cities, the program abandons traditional large-area color washing. Instead, it adopts the geometric logic of the "city wall structure": several cool white profile beams intersect at a precise 90-degree angle, constructing a sleek, transparent "glass room" around the singer. The sharp edges of the beams align perfectly with the restrained rhythm of the song.

As the emotion shifts to the tender passages of What If, the system seamlessly switches to "Qinhuai Mode". Program commands load soft light filters on all beams, shift the color temperature to warm amber, and transform the motion from "cutting" to "flowing". What is even more exquisite is that we programmed a "rippling" effect for the beams: instead of moving in straight lines, they undulate gently in waves with the melodic line of the music, like a flowing river. At this moment, the suspended diamond mechanical structures slowly descend, their edges outlined with soft light, as if transformed into floating lotus lanterns.

The climactic design unfolds in the bridge section of All Night Long. Instead of explosive strobing, the system executes a more sophisticated "cultural metaphor" program: all beams suddenly converge into straight lines and flash vertically at an extremely high frequency, while the numerically controlled mechanical trusses synchronously rise rapidly from bottom to top. The visual logic of this scene is an abstract representation of two iconic Nanjing images— the quick brush strokes with flying white in Chinese calligraphy, and the violent sway of plane tree branches and leaves in the night wind. It unleashes surging emotions in a way rooted in the local cultural fabric, creating a far more profound shock and resonance than conventional strobing.

IV. Professional Value: Lighting as a Spatial Sociology

The lighting design for Zheng Runze’s Nanjing Concert proves that top-tier professionalism has evolved from "technical implementation" to "cultural translation". What we have created is a visual grammatical system that can program, reproduce, and dynamically restructure the intangible urban temperament and musical emotions for different songs. The stage has become a sophisticated "Emotional Geographic Information System": wherever the light reaches, it is not only a coordinate of sound, but also a memory coordinate of Nanjing. This marks that stage lighting design is no longer a mere accessory to performance, but an independent creative language that can actively participate in narrative, shape the spirit of a place, and evoke deep cultural resonance with the audience.

FAQ
Wedding & Parties Lighting Solutions
Is the control system compatible with existing consoles?

Supports DMX / Art-Net / sACN for seamless integration with mainstream consoles; also enables Timecode-driven operation and multimedia synchronized control.

Is system operation quiet?

We offer noise-optimized solutions (vibration damping/soft start/low-noise wire rope guidance) to meet acoustic requirements for TV studios and commercial spaces.

Wholesale Cooperation
What is the MOQ for wholesale cooperation? Is there a tiered pricing policy?

MOQ for wholesale: ≥ 10 units for a single model of conventional lights, and ≥ 5 units for a single model of elevating lights/moving head lights. Tiered pricing is supported: Taking conventional PAR lights as an example, a 5% discount is offered for 10-50 units, a 10% discount for 51-100 units, and a 15% discount for over 100 units. Specific quotations can be negotiated with the account manager based on the cooperation scale (e.g., annual purchase volume).

What is the restocking cycle for wholesale customers? Can production be prioritized?

The restocking cycle for standard models is 3-7 days (same-day shipment if stock is sufficient), and the restocking cycle for customized models is the same as the initial customization cycle (15-45 days). For annual cooperative customers (with an annual purchase amount of ≥ 500,000 RMB), a "priority restocking agreement" can be signed, and 10%-15% of safety stock will be reserved to ensure emergency restocking needs are met within 3 days.
